Musings of a PacHater Over a Stuffed Crow Meal

    Hello all.

As many people here know I am a Pachater. I am here to eat crow over my prediction of Hatton destroying and KTFO Pac in 8 rounds.

1st let it be said that even though I hated Pac and wanted him to lose badly, I 100% believe that unlike the Oscar fight, Ricky was good to go and in shape. Meaning - this victory had EVERYTHING to do with the power and skill of Pacman and close to nothing to do with the various multitudes of excuses we're now accustomed to hearing, i.e. Ricky was weight drained, Floyd Sr. problems in camp messed him up, he threw the fight, he was too excited, etc, etc.

First let's dispel a few inaccuracies and rumors:

    1. Lee Beard stated after the fight that all rumors about tension and/or conflict between the camp and Floyd Sr. was a lie. Him and Floyd were fine.
YES Floyd sr. showed up late several times, this has been proven and documented even in the 24/7 series where you can clearly see in one of the episodes that Floyd is ordering a burger from a fast food joint while being unfashionably late to training camp while Hatton sits and waits for him. However, these infrequent transgressions apparently were not enough to doom Hatton as he trained long and hard and was in peak physical condition.

    2. Hatton was not weight drained. Pure and simple he wrote in his final blog entry which can be read on the web that his target weight for fight night was 153-154lbs. He reached that target weight with a 152-153lbs fight night unofficial weight. Keep in mind that Pacman's unofficial weight of 148lbs was apparently with his clothes on so Pacman might have actually been more like 144-145lbs if not less. This contributed to the huge speed difference that enabled Pacman to blow Hatton away so ruthlessly.

Now a few opinions of my own. Yes, Hatton was said by many to already have been on the slide for a couple years. Paulie Malignaggi gave fans a false sense of security and dominance. In retrospect if you look at the Paulie fight, Hatton didn't show much skill at all, and none of the speed that marked the beginning of his career.
However this is no excuse because as I said I firmly believe that last night's Hatton was nearly 100% prime and even a fully 150% "prime" Hatton would have been decimated by last night's Pacman just as swiftly, just as easily.

Let's be honest now, on the other hand this Pac victory does NOT somehow magically legitimize the Oscar one. Many Pachuggers believed that the haters considered the Oscar victory a 'fluke' that Pacman is unlikely to repeat. However, no one truly considered the Oscar victory a "fluke" that is suddenly legitimized by his destruction of Hatton, it was simply that it was an Oscar in very bad form and very badly shot. I still stand by the opinion 100% that the Oscar that Floyd fought was many many times closer to his prime and physical peak than the weight drained zombie that Pacman fought. That's not to say that Pacman could not have beaten a more prime Oscar, maybe he could maybe he couldn't - but the one he DID fight was no where near prime and no where near even the version of Oscar that Floyd fought - that is fact.

Secondly, let's remember that styles make fights and no matter how quickly Pacman destroyed Hatton and Oscar, it still doesn't take away from the fact that they are the sloppy seconds of Floyd Mayweather and that Floyd likewise dominated and beat those same opponents BEFORE Pacman did.
So while this victory is a great hallmark in Pacman's increasingly legendary career, he is still merely traveling in the already trodden footsteps of Floyd Mayweather. Only an imminent show down between the two claimants for the P4P #1 thrown later in the year can settle who is truly the greatest fighter of this generation.
On one hand Pacquiao is riding more momentum, a bigger urgency, and a more powerful wave of fan hysteria, but on the other hand let us not forget that 1. Pacquiao only became P4P #1 when Floyd LET him, i.e. when Floyd retired and 2. Pacquiao not only has 3 losses but is argued by some to have roughly 4 or even 5 losses as many view his fights with JMM to be victories for JMM - Floyd still maintains that most coveted and unattainable 0 in the loss column.
Either way, Pacman has converted me and made a believer out of me last night. However, he still will not surpass Floyd's greatness until he either beats Floyd himself or Floyd happens to lose to JMM (unlikely).

For now both are headed towards a legendary show down but until then Floyd remains the emeritus and true P4P #1 simply due to the fact that he has never lost, and that Pacman's two biggest victories were over opponents that Floyd had arleady dominated better versions of.
If Floyd beats JMM on July 18 (a most probable prospect), he will likely regain P4P #1 status and Pacman will have no choice but to secure a show down with the Pretty One to secure his legacy. For now I would rank both of them in the top 30 and possibly top 20 P4P of all time. Whoever beats the other, hopefully later this year, will probably garner a coveted placement in the top 10 or top 15 all time list.
Recall that the two pugilists are now tied
Considering that Manny weighed an unofficial 148lbs and Floyd usually comes in around the same weight at his WW outings, there should be no problem and no excuses for this match to occur, it's the ONLY match in boxing that matters right now.
