Mayweather-Marquez - Confusion Over The Fight Weight

The return of Floyd Mayweather Jr. was announced during an early press conference on Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather faces Juan Manuel Marquez in the main event of an HBO pay-per-view on July 18. The press conference was very strange because there were discrepancies about the weight at which this fight will be contested. Based on some of the information provided to the media, many have assumed the fight will take place at 143-pounds, but there appeared to be confusion at the actual press conference and different weights were floating around. Well att 143 or 144 it is still a welterweight fight, so maybe that's what Ellerbe meant. Patiently awaiting the press release...

Hey, BPP, you gonna put up any video from the May-Marquez press conference?

Thats how I took it. They never actually said a weight but they kept saying WW because its about 140. However, on another site I saw them say that its definatly at 144 and not 143. Who cares, its not going to really matter that much

Or maybe he meant what I've been saying: A True WW fight at 147. 147 cap by fight-time.

Think about it: If you weigh 144 at a catch-weight, that fighter can still blow up 10+ pounds by fight-time, but if you make it a true WW fight at 147 with the cap being 147, you can't show up at 154+

But maybe I'm looking to deep into it.

JMM was gonna lose anyway, but he should told Mr boat buyer 140 solid or nothin. The catchweight just puts him at a worse disadvantage, but mass cred to him for agreein to it. Dude is a beast.

Mayweather vs Marquez shouldn't be taken seriously AT ALL. How the hell can you give Mayweather credit for beating a smaller guy. Marquez has no advantages in any department. He doesn't have speed, size, aggression, power, Mayweather can counter punch better, Mayweather has better footwork, Mayweather has better defense. Mayweather has better offense. Mayweather is younger. Mayweather has better stamina. Mayweather is more skilled.

Why is anyone taking the Marquez seriously at all? Not only does he not have any advantages going for him but he's also at a disadvantage moving up to a weight class he's never fought in. Should Mayweather get credit for winning this type of fight? Hell no! Just another one of his handpicked opponents...
