Mayweather Sr. insists he's better than Roach
    05/03/2009 | 06:55 PM

MANILA, Philippines – Despite losing in his bid for the fictional pound-for-pound trainer title, Floyd Mayweather Sr. remains firm that he, not Freddie Roach, is the world’s best coach.

Mayweather Sr. stressed on this despite Ricky Hatton, the fighter he spent more than a month in training for the “Battle of East and West", suffering a second-round loss to the Roach-trained Manny Pacquiao.

In a GMA 7 Flash Report, Connie Sison said that for Mayweather Sr. he is the best compared to the three-time Trainer of the Year winner Roach.

Hatton was considered by Ring Magazine as one of the top contenders for Pacquiao’s pound-for-pound crown but the Briton suffered his most humiliating defeat in his 47-fight career.

Mayweather Sr. said that he was surprised with the power shown by Pacquiao but he is not at all convinced with the Filipino ring icon’s boxing abilities since Hatton failed to follow their game plan.

Pacquiao started fighting as a mini-flyweight at 106 lbs. and reached the 147-lb welterweight division when he fought Oscar De La Hoya last year.

Mayweather Sr. said Hatton’s defense was always open allowing Pacquiao to connect 73 times in the 127 punches that he thrown.

Pacquiao weighed in at 138 lbs before the fight marking the third time that he fought above 130lbs.

Pacquiao improved his fight record to 49-3-2 with 37 of his wins by way of knockout. – GMANews.TV

You can't base wat trainer is better off of one fight. So Floyd Sr couldn't make no claims and neither could Roach...

That will teach him for running his mouth

Floyd has to eat this. I personally don't think the loss is his fault. Ricky chose not to listen to sound defensive strategy, but Sr. currently has no fighter that practices what he has taught better than his son.. and he isn't his trainer so it's hard for folks to make that connect when Roger handles him all the time.

Floyd Sr. just took a big blow with all his trash talking. Whether it was his fault or not, the reality is that in a way he is still a part of that loss.
