I think they will try to promote this as a huge huge fight though, Floyd really needs to do a lot of buys in this fight to really prove his star power exists. So whenever Floyd or any of his people talk I expect them to talk about how great JMM is and how big this fight is (well Floyd will probably talk **** to JMM and Nacho but that is his normal behavior).
    1. Floyd really needs to do a lot of buys in this fight to really prove his star power exists?

How do you come to this line of thinking?

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's adviser, confirmed the bout in an exclusive interview with The Press today. Ellerbe said the Grand Rapids native and six-time world champion immediately reclaims the title as boxing's best.

"He left the sport as the best fighter in the world, he comes back as the best fighter in the world," Ellerbe said. "(Manny) Pacquiao was never considered the best fighter while Floyd was active, so why should anything change?"

Pacquiao will face Ricky Hatton tonight at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The Pacquiao-Hatton winner is rumored to be in line to face the winner of Mayweather-Marquez later this year.

Mayweather, 32, is 39-0 with 25 knockouts in his career. Marquez, 35, of Mexico, is 50-4-1 with 37 knockouts.

"It's going to be tremendous event. (Marquez) has been and still is one of the best fighters in the sport. He's one of the top two fighters in this sport," Ellerbe said. "This is the best versus the best. Floyd wasn't going to come back just to fight anyone.

"The sport has truly missed him. He is the face of boxing. The whole world has been waiting for him to come back."

Mayweather hasn't fought since scoring a 10th-round technical knockout of Ricky Hatton on Dec. 8, 2007.

Ring Magazine had ranked Mayweather as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world from July 18, 2005, through June 2, 2008. He also was honored as Ring Magazine's Fighter of the Year twice, in 1998 and 2007.

If Mayweather beats Marquez, will he face the Pacquiao-Hatton winner?

"We're not focusing on anything other than July 18," Ellerbe said. "The road to (the pound-for-pound title) comes through Floyd Mayweather."

lets see... what this *** g ot is gonna say if manny blast hatton in less than 9!

many pac is the face of boxing, handsdown!

Pacquiao is going to blast Hatton... but hatton is damage goods so what is the real value of the win?

Plus Floyd did dancing with the stars before fighting hatton and only had like 3 full weeks to solely train.

Pacquaio has had 8 full weeks to train and didnt do dancing with the stars.

so pacquaio has to beat hatton in under 5 rounds to really impress me.

              1. Mayweather was hot a year and half ago and took the time off without really staying in the public eye. It is an unknown if he still is. People also like to talk about Floyd as being a top level B-side meaning he can not carry a show. If he comes out and does mediocre numbers how can he demand huge purses.

Straight up he has to sell PPV or he might aswell stay retired~

              2. Low risk is what it sound I give him a small chance of winning less than 25%. Medium risk would be like 25-45%. High risk would be like anything above 45%.

That is highly simplified, but I break each fight into a percentage chance for either guy to win. I use this to help me decide if it is worth the risk of betting on certain fights.

You're missing the part about them all being different sizes.

Nope, he will be reconsidered as P4P #1 again when he proves it again, he can't just walk in and take it after 18 months regardless of how he dominated before...

because floyd beat dlh at 154 and jmm's last fight was at 135 against a feather-fisted juan diaz who rocked jmm.

exactly!!! that's how they should promote the fight... they shouldn't try to make it seem like a fair fight, they should promote it as a tune up for bigger and better things. this will make mexicans and others pissed and want jmm to beat floyd and these dudes will watch it.

why stop being arrogant now... it's how floyd got where he is.

because if floyd/jmm doesn't outsell hatton/pac or do close to it, floyd won't have any negotiation power against the winner of hatton/pac.

                      2. This is a very low risk option, so to call it a tune up is fair?

jmm is a small 135 lber. floyd is a smal 147 lber. that's 2 divisions down separated by 12 lbs.

                      What are your standards for
                      High Risk

high risk for floyd = pwill
medium risk for floyd = cotto, mosley
low risk for floyd = pac and jmm

there are reasons why there are weight divisions.
