Abregu Decked Twice, Survives, and Stops Garcia in a War

By Cliff Rold - The fans on hand at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California, were rewarded with one of the wildest Welterweight brawls so far in 2009 as undefeated 26-year old Carlos Abregu (27-0, 22 KO) of Argentina was forced to come off the floor twice to stop the game, determined Irving Garcia (17-4-3, 8 KO), 30 of Puerto Rico in a four round war. Excellent fights on ShoBox. I thought Abregu was done for sure but he fought back.

I really did think this fight was stopped too early. Garcia was just about spent, but wasn't totally. He was trying to get up the exact moment it was waived off. I sy just count him to ten, the ref had already heard the clap for the last 10 sec. He knew better. Both men gave a hell of an effort. Sure there were so many holes in both their armor, but tonight, Thank you for the show Irving and Carlos. BTW, solid little televised card by Showtime tonight. Two weeks in a row, too bad they can't get rid of their entire production crew.

Exciting fight, and exciting fighters but Abregu needs to improve his defense and movement a bit more.

Bootleg/Poorman's Hagler-Hearns, 3 knockdowns and just when you thought 1 fighter was done he came right back. GREAT FIGHT!

Good fight!!! but Abregu really in not a skilled fighter, he's just a strong puncher. WE need to see a Rematch of this.

Quintero is the real deal. When I saw him 1st in SHO, I know he's going a long way. He's the next Barrera. The Southpaw Barrera.

              Great fight.

TERRILE STOPPAGE though. Garcia was in FAAAAAR better shape after his KD then Abergu was after his.

I Didnt like the ref AT ALL. Way too self-indulgant. Making the fighters seperate farther then was necceasry, and taking way to long after knockdowns and slips to resume the action. just a terrible job IMO

refs are so incompetent these days they don't even know how to count to 10.

Premature stoppage. Could of went either way really.

                    Good performance by Quintero.
