I think there is a huge reward for beating Mayweather. It would really one up his rival Pacaman and what he did with Oscar. On top of this he is probably make 2 to 3 times his biggest payday (1.5 million is his current biggest). If JMM can even make it a good fight I think he will be showered with praise.

The big risk is that he catches a terrible beatting that basically ends him as a top notch prize fighter.

Really I do not think a loss to Mayweather hurt the preception of JMM (unless it is brutal, but even after Floyd brutalized Gatti he continued on) so he will probably be able to get fights if he loses basically the same as now.

The risk/reward for JMM is pretty good, for a normal person the risk of catching a life altering beating trumps the possible gains but not for a great fighter!
