Universum to sign Olympic Gold winner at heavyweight?

    From fight news:

    Universum to sign Chakhkiev?

    By Alexey Sukachev

Rumors are circulating that 2008 Beijing Olympics heavyweight gold medalist for Russia Rakhim Chakhkiev is close to signing a deal with famed German promotional powerhouse Universum Box-Promotion.

According to several sources, Chakhkiev will be in attendance for tomorrow’s Universum boxing event in Bremen, Germany, and will later have a meeting with Klaus-Peter Kohl to discuss a possible contract. Chakhiev, 26, was also a silver medalist at 2007 Chicago world championship and as well as 2007 Russian heavyweight champion.

A very good signing by Universum. Rakhim Chakhkiev was a brillant amature, watched alot of him and at times really impressed me.

If he can adapt to the Pro Ranks he could be a force in the Heavyweight division. Lots of Heavyweighs are really coming from Easten European. And all are very talented and well schooled fighters.....

I think his style is well-suited for the pros.

This could very well be the case here, and If so, Chakhkiev could be a very dangerous force in the Heavyweight Division.

Talking of world class Heavyweight Amature's. I wish Roberto Cammarelle would punch for pay and join the pro ranks. He is one hell of a fighter, such fast and accurate hands for a big man.

But he's happy in the amature and has a great job in the Police Force. So i dout it will happen. Shame........

He may have been able to do big things in the Heavyweight Division.

I can't find his statistics, but he appears to be about the same size as Ruslan Chagaev. He's slightly shorter but more muscular than Alexander Povetkin.

                  Definitely.

He has nothing left to prove as an amateur, and the professional ranks are in need of fighters with his talent.

That is one amateur fighter who i really cant wait to see turn pro, If that guy doesnt make it in the pro game then i would give up on boxing, I have never been excited about wanting a boxer to turn pro like lomachenko.
