JT did a 23 minute interview yesterday on a local sports talk radio program(link to the audio).
Anyway, it's a good listen if you're a Taylor fan; it's probably the most relaxed and candid I've ever heard him. He gets a lot off his chest and shows a good sense of humor about his situation.
To summarize...
Jermain still didn't admit to stamina problems in the fight. He maintains he worked harder in camp than he ever had before. Said he ran 6 miles a day, which he'd never done before. He realizes he's getting older and said he's been trying to overcome that by pushing himself more in the gym.
He repeated his sentiment after the fight that he'd like another go at Carl Froch. He seemed to realize it probably won't happen right away, but said he is willing to go to the UK to make the fight happen. Gave Carl props for coming stateside to defend his belt and said he'd be more than OK with returning the favor by traveling there if necessary.
He sounded a litte put off by the advice his corner gave him in the 11th and 12th rounds. He personally thought he had the fight in the bag, but when his corner told him he needed to win those rounds to win the fight, he believed them and went out and "fought" instead of "boxed". He said it was a dumb move on his part and felt it cost him the fight. Seemed to be placing some of the blame on his corner as well.
When asked about his undefeated record with former trainer Pat Burns, and what he thought was missing since leaving Burns and suffering his losses, he said he'd been thinking about his corner a lot lately and wants to get the right team in place to get him back to winning. Jermain said he didn't know what the answer was, but he was well aware that something isn't working and he'll be looking into making sure all is right with his corner, hinting at possible changes, before he goes into the ring again. I got the feeling that bringing Burns back into the fold is a real possibility.
When retirement was brought up, he said he wants to continue fighting until he's winning again. At one point a couple years ago, he'd told the interviewer that boxing was just his career and he only wanted to fight until a given age (32), get plenty of money in the bank, and then retire. He said that was "undefeated Jermain talking" and that he's different know. He loves boxing, loves winning, and wants to get back into a #1 position.
Funniest moment is probably at 14:40 when asked about Lou Dibella and he talks about how Lou came to his room after the fight and stood over him trying to have a deep, emotional conversation while Jermain was in the bathtub, and Jermain says, "Uh, Lou, okay man... you uh... you wanna talk LATER?"
Apparently Taylor is no longer under contract with Dibella, so his next fight won't necessarily be a DBE promotion. I'd bet it will be, but it does leave things a little uncertain.
