Thats what would worry me the most if Im a Pac fan. This fight reminds me so much of Margarito-Cotto. Im not talking about the fight at all but just the mindset of the fighters coming in. Like Hatton, Margarito had recently loss to Williams and this was the biggest most defining fight in his career. I thought Margarito would win because of his size but even without that, I just knew that he would be a man that no one in boxing would want to face that night. His back was against the wall and you were going to have to go through hell to beat him. I remember Max even saying the same thing in the previews. I think Max was picking Cotto but he also said that he would hate to be Cotto. He said that he would hate to be the guy to face Margarito in the fight that Margarito feels that he needs to say that he's arrived. Thats how I feel about Hatton. He's all business right now. He's going to be like a tank in this fight and so mentaly tough. He's going to die in that ring to get the W if he has to. He knows this is a career defining fight and its not going to be easy to beat him.
On the flip side Pac reminds me of Cotto. A great fighter who knows this is a super fight but at the same time its just another fight to them. The Cotto-Margarito fight wasnt the same for both guys. It was much bigger for Margarito and you could tell. Cotto was just facing another guy good who he thought he could beat and should beat if he fought well but there wasnt that sense of urgency or hunger. Its the same with Pac. Its almost like he's going through the motions. I mean, you can tell that he's still a beast. He's a champ who's training hard and looks as sharpe as ever physicaly but mentaly is he really determined. Does he have the mindset that he had coming into the 1st MAB fight, the EM rematch, the 1st JMM fight, or the Oscar fight? I dont think so. Again like Cotto, he knows its a big fight and that Hatton is good but its just another fight against a good fighter to him and he thinks that if he fights his fight then he should win but does he have that same mentality? Sometimes you can win a fight just strictly on determination and I think thats what Margarito did and thats what Ricky might do. It kind of like Frazier-Ali 1. Frazier was not going to lose that fight no matter what. You couldve hit him with a truck and he was going to keep coming.
I guess the difference is that Hatton has no plaster : ) Sorry, I had to get that in. Plaster aside though, you saw Margarito's chin. I dont even think his chin was as great as much as it was his will that made his chin look great. You couldve hit him with a brick that night and he wasnt going to get hurt. I could see the same for Hatton. I could see Pac hitting him with monster shots that normaly might hurt Hatton but this fight he will keep coming through. You saw Margarito didnt have that hunger against Mosley and look at what happened or Williams in the 1st Quintana fight. When these guys relax a little and there opponent is super hungery then it can be hell to pay. Pac just better be ready. If he matches Hatton's intensity then he will win but if he doesnt then he will find himself in a fight that he may not be mentaly prepared for. Look at Hatton-Tszyu. That was the same type of thing. Hatton was so hungery to prove himself and Tsyzu was not mentaly ready for that type of fight. His talent kept him in it but mentaly he wasnt ready for that war. Pac better be ready because Hatton wants this and he wants it bad. As of right now, I dont get the sense that Pac wants it that bad. The good thing is that earlier I talked about Ali-Frazier I but in Ali-Frazier III Joe wanted it bad again and yet Ali's skill won over Frazier's will. Maybe Pac can repeat that
