After being told that Joe Calzaghe has no interest in coming out of retirement to face him, Carl Froch has said he does not want to take on the Welshman anyway.
Froch secured the defence of his WBC super-middleweight crown with a late KO against Jermain Taylor on Saturday and called out the returned former champion on the back of that win.
However, Enzo Calzaghe labelled Froch a 'muppet' for making such a claim and said his son has no interest in abandoning his retirement to fight a figher he considers overrated. As a result, Froch says he was not serious anyway, that he was just proving a point and that Calzaghe should now enjoy an earned retirement.
"Calzaghe needs to stay retired. He's finished, he's done what he's done,” the 31-year-old was quoted as saying by The Sun.
“He's eating plenty of food now, he's drinking and he's enjoying his life — and so he should because he's had a fantastic career.
"But the reason I called him out at the end of the Taylor fight was because he said I wasn't good enough to fight him and I'm not proven at world level.
"I gave him my answer by beating Taylor and he who laughs last, laughs longest.
"I've had the last laugh now with Calzaghe. I've won that fight in style and he's got nothing bad to say about me. He's retired so I'll leave him alone."
All that said, Froch finished by saying: "If he does want to come out of retirement - and he was talking about it - the only justifiable fight for him is me.
"We'll see what happens. Bigger names than Calzaghe have come out of retirement so he might just fancy the job."
Such an idiot
