Well, many have said that Hearns was highly over-trained for the first Leonard fight. Whether it really made the main difference or not, we'll never know. Those close to him and those who knew a fair bit about him at the time were very surprised when he came in at 145 and he had been struggling with making the weight comfortably. He also didn't gain much after it.

Nonetheless, he had never been fifteen rounds before that fight. In my opinion he was simply way too inexperienced to fight Leonard. If it was a couple of years later he would have won without question I believe.

He had never even gone twelve for gods sake!!!! His only late KO was in the twelfth but he had never gone the full twelve.

Why they threw him into that fight without more experience is beyond me. You think at least Steward should have known. They had never had him truly battle tested against one of the most experienced, young champs out there who was known to have a full, hard fifteen in him in the most brutal conditions? Huh?

Hearns was an undefeated world champ at 147 when he fought SRL, Why are you so surprised that this fight happened?

They were the top two welters at that time.

Easily Hagler Hearns. Leonard-Hearns is so overrated. It's a good fight, but there is just way to much inconsistensy. Really exciting in parts and then it becomes terrible at part.

I voted Leonard-Hearns because of the tactical brilliance, skills and ebb/flow of the fight.

But I must say that I've watched Hagler-Hearns several more times as it is non-stop action, so if I was to invite some friends over to watch a semi-old fight that would be the choice.
