Skill wise I don’t know if there is a massive difference Patterson would throw amazing combos for his size had great power for his size and good stamina as well, he was an excellent offensive fighter, his biggest problem was his chin. Its interesting that the first time he ever got in the ring to spar he was knocked out. Patterson beat Archie Moore and ATG he beat Tommy Jackson who was a good heavyweight, Ingemar Johansson he lost to no one outside Patterson, Eddie Machen, George Chuvalo, Henry Cooper, Bonavena and he should have been given wins against Quarry and Ellis, If he had been given the Ellis win which most people thought he had won he would have been a 3 times heavyweight champion. I would like to point out that in the first Ali fight he had an injured back which made him a sitting target and in the last Ali fight he had slowed down and was somewhat old, the only person that really outclassed him was Liston but that was a style and size clash.
