How Does Our Recent Era Stand Up?

Ive said this many time before but I think we underrate guys so much nowdays. All people do is downplay guys from this era and boost up guys from the past. I have always argued that these guys can hang with guys in any era, it just doesnt look the same because boxing isnt as big now and fights arent on National TV anymore. If there was NO PPV and they still showed the best guys on CBS then people would be loving our fighters.

I still think you can put Floyd, JMM, Pac, MAB, EM, RJ, Hopkins, Mosley, Toney, Lopez, Cotto, Williams, Castillo, Tszyu, and so on against guys from the 80's, 60's or whatever and they will more then hold there own. It was just a much more hyped era and boxing was much bigger in the US back then. I honestly beleive that a prime Hopkins would give Hagler all he wanted and then some but most people dont see it that way

u also have to take in consideration that those guys didnt have any advance technology for anything... not even and most important medical health....

todays fighters have way way way more tools.. .than those from the past..

    thats wheres the difference is.

imagine a hagler with a condition coach... all the staff... and all that ****...

I don't think it would make any difference. Hagler could go 15 rounds at a fast pace, the same can't be said for many of today's fighters.

And the same can't be said for many of the yesteryear's fighters as well.

I don't think you can generalize like that. I think it comes down to the individual.

But I see a lot of fighters now days going 12 rounds and looking like they could go another 12.

I will say that overall fighters are fitter now, due to the evolution of the modern athlete, than they were in the past.

I just don't see how he could improve.

I actually think that Hagler would have been worse under today's conditions.

The way he was brought up, fighting for little money against tough Philadelphia middleweights in their hometowns, having nearly 50 fights before getting a long-deserved shot at the title as well as the numerous setback he suffered, made him the fighter he was.

Our fighters today could hang with those of yesteryear,if ur basing it on the Mosleys and B-hops of our time, but when u start compairing the floyds and ****,then it gets embarising, because if Duran fought that resume right now,he would be undefeated as well,so would damn near every old school fighter ATG or not!!!
