I think if he beats Floyd by a clear decision (not a lot of controversy) he becomes #1.
I don't know though, because Pacquiao has a head to head, and a lot of other wins under his belt that are terrific as well.
You see, if it's a WIDE ass unanimus decision, leaves room to speculate. You could say that Marquez has been more active, so he just won some rounds, and a lot of close ones. You could say that Marquez just has a style to beat him. But, you'd also have to say that the guy ahead of him, p4p, still has the head to head and has stopped the guy that Marquez struggled with (Barrera) beaten a guy that is barely calling out Marquez (Morales) and also beat a couple more p4p guys.
Knocking him out, that's the only way I see it.
However, I could still see a few people thinking Manny was the top guy.
This is like asking if Paulie TKO's Wlad is he P4P #1. There is no way in hell JMM beats FMJ. 35 year old natural FW moving up to WW with 55 fights under his belt to face the bigger, stronger, fresher, younger guy...? JMM being a small lightweight imagine him at WW.
Please guys this is another cherry picked fight by Floyd where he faces a guy with no chance of beating him but is a "name" who will bring in money. 24/7 will hype this fight up though and people will actually think JMM is a threat. In the same way Hatton had a snowballs chance in hell so does JMM.
Floyd by stoppage in the later rounds. I'll be surprised if JMM makes it through the fight to the finish line. I kinda feel bad for JMM but I guess he decided he's gonna cash in finally after a long and illustrious career. He deserves all the money he gets in this fight.
Hopefully he doesn't retire after the loss and gets a 3rd fight with Pac before bowing out. Props to JMM though for an epic, HOF career and for fighting the very best out there.
