It was a good post but I thinky ou went a bit over the top with a few things. First off, Americans do compete internationally... A LOT.
The U.S is one of the most invloved countries as far as international competition goes. The probel, which I agree with you on, is that in the U.S we tend to take things for granted a lot and don't support our athletes the way we should because there are so many sports here to root for.
The U.S is a vast country and isn't really close to any rival as far as sports are concerned. Mexico and the U.S have developed a nice socer rivalry but in reality not many Americans care too much about soccer.
In baseball, the U.S really watches the Major Leagues more than it does the Carribbean Series or the Baseball world series.
I agree with most of what you say but I do think Americans unite when the time is right and for the right sport.
