What I think he meant by "Pacquiao never goes to the body" is that recently ; He hasn't.

The Makelin fight was a decade ago.

When's the last time you really saw Manny invest in the body, since then?

        Pac-Marquez 2

        Pac-Diaz

Pacquiao's body punching is severely underrated because his speed and punch output every fight is so high that it becomes hardly noticeable. But there isnt a fight where Pacquiao doesnt invest in the body.

Watch Pacquiao work Hatton's body....and work it effectively come May 2nd.

I didn't really see that much body punching in either of those fights.

Typically when Manny goes downstairs, he does so to get his opponet thinking "body", so that he can open up on them upstairs.

And his body shots, from what I've seen, are pretty weak and a non-issue.

I'll be watching closely May 2nd.

I expect him to wreck Ricky.

But I think 80% of the damage will be upstairs.

Like I said.....Pacquiao's bodywork is severely underrated because his punch output is so high that it's hardly noticeble. And i disagree with your statement. What i've seen as the norm for Pacquiao is that his opponents are so worried about the 1-2...or 1-2-3 that if they cover up early...he gets in pretty solid straight lefts to the solar plexus....moves away....and sets up again.

manny doesn't really work the body.

i disagree that his body punches are weak though. he just doesn't throw it enough.

he hurt morales to the body in their fights.

i think the most he hurt morales in their 1st fight was to the body buthe abandoned it to headhunt.

My impression of his body shots being weak comes from the fact that he's usually reaching in with them.

Since Manny is an "in and out" type of fighter, as fizzle said, sometimes his opponets cover up upstairs while on the outside, and he'll dart in behind a straight left to the body.

If he were to actually sit down on those shots, in the pocket, we might really ba able to gauge his strength as a body puncher.

But he's not exactly notorious for going downstairs, and he abandoned it against Morales.

It's not a bad thing that Manny's a head hunter. It's part of his lure.
