So what does Juan Manuel Lopez NOT do?

The man has solid defense. People that say he leaves himself open when he throws his right hook, well DUH! Of course he is, but problem is his opponent won't be awake to make the counter off it. He can box technical. Throw over 1000 punches if he wants. Stand and bomb with you. Fight inside, box from the outside. This guy can be very dominant for some time.

There isn't much he can't do. He doesn't have world class defense but it is good enough to allow him to do what he wants to do offensively. In addition to the things you already noted, Lopez has great timing and positions himself well on the inside. He uses his off arm to move his opponent around inside which worked to his advantage last night. I'm not sure if he'll always get away with that, but it works with his height advantage.

We hadn't really seen much of him on the inside before this fight, but he did very well there. He threw short punches and kept his hands moving. That was a very complete performance last night.

i was truly impressed with his focus and intensity thru out the whole bout...he showed patience against the crafty vet and seemed to pick up steam as the fight went on

I really didnt see alot that I didnt like. The thing is, we still havent seen him get punched alot in a fight and see how he reacts to "abuse".

He just might be good enough that we won't see that for awhile. If he can keep his opponents on the defense, ala Pacquiao, they'll be more worried about blocking what he throws rather than mounting their own offense to keep him off them.

That's what I was thinking last night...

He was a slick boxing talent according to HBO before the Ponce de Leon fight...

Then he became the alpha slugger, killing people in one round...

And now he became volume puncher extraordinaire...

He's awesome to watch... I'm really excited to see where his career is going.
