After hearing that Haye-Klit will be in front of at least 47,000 and quite possibly 60,000 fans in attendence, I think the notion that boxers need to fight on american soil to gain the respect of fight fans is ridiculous. Especially ridiculous when the biggest american names rarely, if ever, step foot outside of thier own country to defend their championships. Here we have another fight outside of america that garners close to or more than 50,000 fans in live attendence.
From the looks of it, the thought that boxing is somehow "dying" is taking a beating as well. If the sport was on its deathbed, why did 47,000 people already purchase tickets to this fight? Maybe, just maybe in the american landscape of sports, boxing itself isn't the draw it used to be, but worldwide, the sport is as live as its ever been.
Next week will feature two of the sports biggest names, and guess what?
They're not american. The fact that they're fighting in the states is quite possibly a huge joke as well. I don't doubt this fight could have grabbed 50,000 in England.
So, why do fighters have to come here again to gain the respect of ignorant americans?
