Cuban Boxing...Are The Converting Orthadox Fighters Into SouthPaws?

OK, so I've been watching a lot of footage lately of Cuban boxers and I have to ask.

It seems as though many of their great Olympic boxers in the past 2 Olympics are almost identical in styles. Mario Kindelan and Guillermo Rigondeaux (Basically the same fighters) Yuriorkis Gamboa (Somewhat in his Olympic days).

What's more shocking is the number of Southpaws they have had. Yan Barthelemy, Erislandy Lara included, Gamboa being the only orthadox fighter.

We all know Cubans are slick with their boxing and their training regiment is absurd. My question is does anybody know if they were all converted into southpaws because of the advantages it gives to fighters.

However according to this video not all members are southpaws, just about half of them.

I'm seriously considering a move to southpaw and it would help on anybody's knowledge in this situation. Notable converts from southpaw to orthadox are Golden Boy, Cotto and Rocky. Orthadox to Southpaw fighters include Winky Wright.

Under amateur boxing would it be feasible?

Give it a try in shadow boxing, sparring etc. Most amateurs will have little to no experience fighting southpaws because they are somewhat rare. You can suprise them with powerful left hands and throw off their balance by circling to your left constantly. You will be open to your opponents right hand though.

Matter of fact is anybody a converted southpaw themselves? Please explain how long before you decided to etc...

It just holds such a large advantage because of the awkwardness. If I'm an orthadox fighter with my stronger jab out front, not only is my opponent unable to use his jab effectively because he's facing a southpaw, but my jab is stronger and I can control him the whole fight.

In amateur boxing, power is necessary but in situations where you're looking to score points, a converted southpaw would be less willing to do damage.

you haave to be able to throw with decent power with that left hand , because his right is going to land well , and same would go for your left . however if he has that good right as his best punch his best weapon may likely be your weakest.

you can look at it from different perspectives.

i believe you can be totally right. i would love to knock out my opponents with my straight right cross but i would like to think long picture here.

Kindelan is arguably the best pound for pound greatest olympic boxer in the last decade. Here he just systematically dismantles his opponent by boxing him. The other guy just can't figure him out.
