Khan Says Beating Kotelnik Will Be Easy
Amir Khan believes he will be in for an easy night when he steps up a division to challenge Andreas Kotelnik for the WBA junior-welterweight title on June 27.
The 22 year-old from Bolton says the defeat to Colombian puncher Briedis Prescott and the tko win over Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera have made him a better fighter.
"So much has changed from that defeat(Prescott),” said Khan. “I changed from a boy into a man,".
"There were times when I would just go in the ring and fight but the Prescott defeat taught me in the right way. If I had gone into that fight and boxed with my mind it would have been a different night.
"I have changed so much since that defeat. I am now in LA and a world title shot has come along.
"I fought Oisin ***an and then beat Marco Antonio Barrera. People said Barrera got cut but I always knew I had the skills to beat him."
Regarding his upcoming world title challenge against Kotelnik, Khan only sees one winner.
"I am confident I can do a job on him," said a confident Khan. "I have got fast feet and fast hands and if I box him cleverly I think I can make it an easy night.
"The Olympics have been the biggest thing for me up until now - but this would be bigger. When I was a kid I always wanted to be a world champion. I watched Ali, Prince Naseem Hamed, Ricky Hatton win world titles and I wanted to achieve what they achieved."
Kotelnik was unable to attend Wednesday’s press conference due to failing to obtain a visa to enter Britain in time sent a statement saying: "I will knock Amir Khan out on June 27.
.
"Khan is a good ambitious fighter. Like me he won a silver medal at the Olympics and we were beaten by the great Mario Kindelan. But that is where the similarity ends.
"I am a world champion and I will show my class against this child."
