  • Arum Blasts Producers of The ‘Thrilla’ Documentary

TOP Rank promoter Bob Arum, who played a major role in the staging of the “Thrilla in Manila” between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier at the Araneta Coliseum on Oct. 1, 1975, blasted the producers of the fight's documentary that was recently telecast by HBO. [details]

I agree with this article, and I rarely agree with Arum. It was about time a documentary was made giving Frazier's side of the story, but there absolutely was no need for it to go out of its way to demean Ali in ways that had absolutely no relevance to Frazier, or for it to do so by twisting and bending the truth. That did Frazier a severe disservice, because it makes him look mean and a liar, when he's neither. Ali is no saint, but he's nothing like the picture the film paints of him either. The film's just a hatchet job, and the worst sort of journalism.

It didn't twist the truth.. If anything, history has twisted the truth.
People forget how much of an ******* and a prick Ali was. They forget the hell he put Frazier and his family through. It's about time someone showed Ali for what he really is.

I don't understand how people and Ali expect Frazier to forgive him either.
Would you forgive a man who turned his back on you after you helped him out, rediculed you and tried to humiliate you but then after it was all said and done tried to wash his hands by saying it was meant to "promote" the fight and giving a weak ass apology?
Showing up to someone's hotel firing off a gun isn't promoting a fight.. It's just arrogant ignorance.

Ali deserves to be in the state he is in. He was a great fighter with extraordinary talent and skill but he was a worthless man. I bet he must regret everything he said and did when he has trouble performing easy everyday functions.

The gorilla thing was nasty but was hardly meant in a racist way, coming from Ali. Calling Porsche his mistress without mentioning that they married three months later was highly misleading. The claim that Ali was fed the Vietcong line was untrue. The coverage of the second fight was very misleading. The claim that Ali wouldn't have come out for the final round of the third fight if Frazier had come out was pure speculation, and given Angelo Dundee's record, highly unlikely speculation at that.

What does his adultery have to do with that? Or the stuff about the Vietcong? Or the stuff about the Nation of Islam? All totally irrelevant and only there because the film was a hatchet job.

Arum is a man for whom the truth means very little. If he's angry about the documentary, you know it was a good documentary.

You are a ****ing ****** for saying that. He may have said some awful things about Frazier, but they are words at the end of the day. To say a man deserves to get parkinsons because he called someone names is very low. Lets hope you never have to suffer with a illness like it.
