Fernando Vargas before he had the back problems was a more complete fighter then Julio Chavez, he had faster hands and feet, threw combinations, and was a very patient and didn't have that ****** take 3 punches to land 1 mexican style.

Ahahahaha. Good post. Yeahh, I would have thought so too back in the day. I used to under estimate Chavez, then I went out and bought his career set and watched a **** ton of his fights.. Nooo Welterweight Vargas probably wouldn't have faired so well against Light Welter Chavez, the man was a master at cutting off the ring and he was more accurate than people give him credit for.

interestingly enough, I think Chavez(Sr.) had problems with his back too. I remember hearing it in a fight of his, and he often used to stand up instead of sit down in his corner for that reason.

he probably had more of a problem with alchohol though. heard he used to drink a lot.

I think you need to buy some tapes or something. Maybe you were a big Meldrick Taylor fan?? If anything, that fight proves a what a monster he was. He took on the closest thing to Roy Jones hand speed and demolished the kid. Call it dumb and taking too many shots, or call it destroying a potential ATG that would have destroyed any other fighter that night. I even respected him in the Whitaker fight, I heard all this talk about how Whitaker outclasses him, but the fight starts off with Chavez landing leaping hooks and forcing Whitaker to change his fight. Sure I gave it to Whitaker, but that's another man that shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Fernando Vargas.

What does back problems mean? Thats not what ruined him. What ruined him was being rushed into a Tito fight. Tito ended his career that night plain & simple. People are fools when they say that Oscar finished him. NO way. The pre Tito version of Vargas wouldve beat Oscar without a doubt. Tito finished him. I only pray that Tito didnt have illegal wraps because its sad to think that great fighters lose there careers over guys cheating. I will give Tito the benefit of doubt though.

Even if he had illegal wraps and even with Vargas maybe being rushed into that fight too fast, he still wouldve been ok if he wouldve just boxed. He got dropped and got behind early but after that he had came back even or even had took the lead early midway of the fight. If he wouldve just boxed from then on then he wouldve been good to go. He may have beat Tito and may have been a great fighter but instead he tried to brawl and took big shot after big shot until he looked like a straight punch drunk fighter at the end of that fight. After that, he looked that way in nearly every other fight, even the one's that he won in.
