But based on even Clottey's last 3 years in the sport, what would make one assume Clottey is knocking Cotto out when he hasn't KO'd anyone in quite some time (let alone a name in the sport)? Im not being a ****, serious question.

Or let me ask this, would you have assumed Clottey would KO Cotto prior to Cotto's fight with Margarito?

For one, Cotto hits with more accurate, crisper shots. He lands more quickly and more often. He has a better chance at breaking the defense of a guy like Clottey than Margarito did/does. He's also a more patient guy, who will pick his shots.

He ALSO, hits harder. Margarito is stronger, but Cotto has the harder shots overall. He simply takes his time.
