    Penalosa eyes third division title!

Gerry “Fearless” Peñalosa eyes 3rd title
    Thursday, April 23, 2009

VETERAN boxer Gerry “Fearless” Peñalosa is hungry for his third division world title and hopes to put up his best career performance when he faces unbeaten Puerto Rican Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez on April 25 in Puerto Rico for the World Boxing Organization super featherweight crown.

“I have trained very hard for this fight, because I know how hard this fight is going to be. Lopez is a great champion and I will have to be at my best to defeat him and I will be at my best on Saturday,” said Peñalosa in a report posted at *********.com.

Peñalosa is currently in Puerto Rico doing his final preparations and had light training with his brothers, Jonathan and Carlos, for an hour yesterday.

The WBO bantamweight champion Peñalosa is thrilled with his upcoming clash with the hard-hitting 25-year-old Puerto Rican because he believes the latter’s style fits his defensive-oriented technique.

“I really like this fight against Lopez, because it’s good for my style and it should be a war,” said Peñalosa, who won his tune-up fight in Cebu against young Mexican fighter German Meraz via a unanimous decision last Feb. 21.

“I’m going to win round by round and I have to stay focused at all times,” he added.

Peñalosa has been in the sport for nearly 20 years and won his first world title in 1997 against Japanese Hiroshi Kawashima via a split decision.

He captured his second division world championship belt, the WBO bantamweight crown, when he stopped Jhonny Gonzalez with a vicious body shot in 2007. (EKA)
