MANILA, Philippines – Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is again placing his bet on a Manny Pacquiao win over Ricky Hatton on their May 2 (May 3 in Manila) bout in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“Pacquiao will win," said Tyson emphatically. “I like Ricky Hatton, but he is just not elusive enough to handle Manny’s pressure attack."
A year ago, Tyson, the youngest man ever to win the heavyweight title at age 20, also picked Pacquiao to get past Oscar De La Hoya in their “Dream Match" showdown. Tyson even personally visited the Filipino southpaw at the IBA gym in Las Vegas just days prior to the fight.
The Brooklyn native said Pacquiao reminds him of his younger days when he was still at the prime of his career, a time when he was known as the “Baddest Man on the Planet."
“With Manny, it’s something like I used to be. With Manny, the punches come in bunches."
But Hatton is out to prove Tyson wrong.
Following his only media conference call, Hatton said Pacquiao will be in for a big surprise as he hasn’t faced a formidable opponent like him in the past.
“I don’t think he’s fought anyone as fierce, ferocious as rough, big and strong as me," said the native of Manchester, England. “I’m an absolute handful. I’ve never been more sure, more confident."
Hatton is in the remaining days of his 12-week training camp in Las Vegas under Floyd Mayweather Sr.
And he confessed to being in the best shape of his 46 career fight.
“It was the best sparring I’ve had. My partners were able to clone the style of Manny," said the 30-year old International Boxing Organization (IBO) light-welterweight champion.
