    New movie about Mickey Ward

Christian Bale and director David O. Russell are poised to get into the ring with Mark Wahlberg on "The Fighter."

Pic tells the story of Boston fighter "Irish" Mickey Ward and how he was helped to the world lightweight championship by half-brother ****y Eklund. Eklund once decked Sugar Ray Leonard and went the distance against the boxing legend before forfeiting his career to drugs and crime. He redeemed himself by training Ward through his Rocky-like run to the title.

Wahlberg will play Ward, a fighter who was losing bouts and was ready to hang up the gloves when his brother came back into his life. Bale will play Eklund, whose drugs and robbery spree drew him a 10- to 15-year sentence in state prison. There, he kicked drugs, became a model prisoner and emerged as a changed man who helped his brother reach the glory that eluded him.

Yea, but losing Aronofsky made the appeal go wayyyyy down.

But this is probably a big reason why Bale was with Whalberg at Pac's camp in "24/7". I was wondering why Bale was there.

Why is Russell directing this movie?

Darren Aronofsky is way better. I know he got a lot of slack for "The Fountain," but I thought that was a good movie. And then he has other movies to back him up anyway for his talent like "The Wrestler," Requiem for a Dream," and "Pi"

Bale is cool. I often hear having a great actor can make a below-average actor much better.

Yea they've been trying to get this movie off the ground for 2 years now. I'm eager to see how they'll pull it off though. I wonder who'll play Gatti.

Production stalls and Aronofsky just got tired of it, and he moved on.

That really, really curbs my enthusiasm for this movie.

          Aronofsky directing this=Awesomeness.

          O'Russell= average.

Hopefully I'm wrong but I just don't see it with Russell.
Isn't he allegedly a loose cannon and treats his actors like ****?
Maybe he was justified since I wasn't there, but if he gives Bale ****, expect Batman to drop him.

Plus, his movies are average at best like you said.

              Three Kings was OK.

              Spanking the Monkey was...eh.

I Heart Huckabees was Ok as well but I didn't like it the first few times I tried to watch it. Jason Schwartzman made that movie and Naomi Watts was nice to look at.

I just think you need someone better; someone with more "drama" and imagination to get this movie where it should be.

But I'm not in the business and I don't know these guys so....
Just saying, based on his work, it's not awe inspiring or worth my money.

Yup. And after The Wrestler, it's clear that Aronofsky knows how to do a great athlete biopic. I was intrigued by The Wrestler cause Aronofsky never tackled a project like that, but I thought it was the best film of the year last year.

Aronofsky would have made this film gold. It really ****ing sucks that he's out.

                  Is he really making RoboCop?
I heard him talk about this before as a possibility.

He should get Bale for that actually but I wonder how much he will change since I don't know if it is an actual re-make of the same exact story.

I could see him making it rated "R" as well.

Anyway, I'm not that hyped up for this movie anymore. Bale would be the only reason I would hold out hopes it would be good since he does very good movies.
