Ricky Hatton says his greatest motivation when he faces Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd comes from the prospect of being crowned the world's best pound for pound boxer.

The Manchester boxer will put his world light welterweight titles on the line when he faces the Filipino, the world's current P4P champion, and realises that this is his best chance to reach the very top of his profession.

"It means everything to me," he told HBO's 24/7.

"You can't go higher than being the best P4P fighter of all the champions and all the weight divisions. Nobody is going to stop me doing it, including Manny."

Hatton maintains that his last shot at a P4P king, Floyd Mayweather Jr, saw the worst moment of his career back in December 2007.

"I don't think it was humbling - I'm a humble guy anyway - I think [I was devastated after] the fight because it was a fight I really did believe I was going to win," he said.

I don't know how this a P4P status? I mean if Hatton went down to Pac's weight and beat him I'd say there's a chance he's got some P4P status...who is Hatton kidding?

Lets see if he can even survive the fight first then we'll decide if he is truly the p4p best. Even if he wins, what will the public say regarding that title when PBF un-retires to regain his throne? He might be P4P for like 6 months and then what? He will have to fight Mayweather again to prove he is the best.

The whole "p4p" thing is bull****. It's always just a list of somebodys favorite boxers, that's all. It started off as a space filler in the useless Ring magazine.

Someone needs to tell Hatton that beating the P4P #1 doesn't automatically make you P4P #1. I think he really does think that, it's ******ed.

If Hatton beats Manny, will it be JMM # 1 then Pac # 2 or can Pac still stay @ #1 and wait for JMM to win a fight and then decide?

Hatton will def move up but not at #1, not even top # 5, IMHO.

I can't believe this guy really thinks he'll be p4p #1 if he beats Pacquiao. What caused all this damge, the left hook or the ringpost?

I dont think Hatton would have a problem at all. In fact I'd say thats his dream.
