The next Saturday, almost at the same time in which Juan Manuel Lopez is defending his sceptre superrooster of the OMB before Gerry Peñalosa in the Rubén Rodriguez, the Mexican Daniel Ponce of Leon will be making a preparatory fight in the Mexican city of Cozumel, when he is moderate to the Nicaraguan Marlon Aguilar in a combat to 10 assaults.
Tune up why, will be asked some of you?
The logical answer is that it thinks about that is a preparatory fight for a possible revenge with the boricua champion, that, in fine words, blasted de Leon in less than a round snatching the title to him in past June.
But, I do not know.
The other days, when I consulted with its manager - the Puerto Rican been in Los Angeles, Joe Hernandez, something made me suspect that he is very not excited with that idea.
He is more, he could almost say that he would be inclined to reject it in case they offered it, although Ponce of Leon appears like second challenger of the boricua in the `ranking' of the OMB, and he would become his obligatory challenger if first, Rafael Márquez, does not exert his right to challenge the boricua.
As one does not hope it does that it, Márquez, the smaller brother of Juan Manuel, has programmed to fight in May in an eliminatory one of the CMB.
“Never in the life”, it was, in short, the answer that Hernandez offered me to Joe when I asked to him if she would manage the celebration of Juanma-Ponce of Leon II.
“Neither the 122 nor the 126 pounds”, it stressed, with enough conviction.
“Juanma is a beast, outside series, an animal”,
“It is necessary to be realistic: or we go away on the other hand, or Juanma is put old hoping by us”.
I asked to him if because Juanma koed his fighter in 2:26 minute, if that had influenced in this appreciation.
“That was my error”, said. “When we were going to fight with Juanma, I thought that Ponce had the opportunity to strike it, but that boy has an incredible execution of blows”.
Soon I did not hear to him well, but it seemed to mention the names of Wilfredo Go'mez and Tito Trinidad.
My next question was related to the result of the imminent defense agaisnt the Philippine Peñalosa, the veteran 118 champion of the OMB, also left-handed - as Ponce and Juanma- whose record of 54-6-2 includes 36 victories by KO and zero defeats by that sad one via.
“For me it is a shame that you ask that question to me”, Joe said to me after one long pause in which the good man tried to control his outbursts of laughter.
“When Ponce fought with Peñalosa”, he remembered on the combat of March of 2007 that the Mexican won by ample unanimous decision,
“I not only thought that it was going to be easy, but Ponce was going to be first was going to ko him”
“Really, Joe, you think that Juanma is going to gain Saturday”
………… and the communication broke…..
My prediction….
Juanma by KO in one round.
