Juan Manuel Lopez: “I will become the first to KO Penalosa!”
By Luis Torres (19-Apr-2009)
Puerto Rican KO artist Juan Manuel 'Juanma' Lopez recently spoke to Puerto Rico's Primera Hora about his April 25 fight against Gerry Penalosa. Lopez vows he will become the first fighter to stop the veteran Penalosa!
“I have no doubts that I will become the first fighter to stop Gerry Penalosa, although I always prepare to go 12 rounds,” a confident Juan Manuel Lopez said. “I don’t want the people to get the wrong impression and think I am overconfident. It is just that Penalosa always comes forward and he gets hit by a lot of left crosses and right hooks. I will do him much harm. Many people say I am too confident but if I don’t trust myself then who will? I have done a very good job training and I know what I have to do in the ring.”
Lopez was also quick to respond to comments made by Penalosa’s trainer Freddie Roach who stated that he has identified flaws in Lopez’s style.
“I don’t know what he saw. They say that I got hit a lot in the Ponce De Leon fight but I don’t know what they are talking about because the fight only lasted two minutes.” Lopez concluded with a laugh.
