Byrd wins a SD against McCline

Here's the full boxingscene.com live report:

Jameel McCline is coming down to the ring and looking huge. McCline doing some dancing in the ring. Byrd is now coming down to the ring. HBO really playing up the story of how close the families of Byrd and McCline have been prior to this fight.

Jameel McCline getting plenty of cheers as he is announced to the crowd. Byrd getting plenty of boos, more then likely from all the Golota fans in the house.

Round 1 - Fight starts off with both guys being cautious. Jameel jabbing and Byrd moving. Byrd looks like a small child compared to McCline. Byrd is feinting, McCline trying to get to the body. Byrd with a left, McCline lands another bodyshot. pretty slow fight so far. Byrd with a bodyshot and McCline keeps going fo the body. Byrd blocking almost all of McCline's jabs. Crowd boos the slow round when it ends. McCline wins a close round.

Round 2 - McCline is not fighting like a "big" fighter, but is boxing Byrd. Not sure if his gameplan is good or bad yet. Crowd booing the slow action. Right hand by McCline. McCline trying to pick his shots, not much landing by Jameel. Crowd is pretty quiet. McCline tries to come in but Byrd making him miss most of his big shots and trying to counter. McCline jumps on Byrd with power****s, Byrd is hurt by a huge right, Byrd goes down, end of the round and Byrd is saved. 10-8 round for McCline.

Round 3 - Byrd went down hard in the last round and is lucky two seconds were left in the round. McCline going back on the huge attack with Byrd against the ropes, Jameel landing some big shots. Byrd is covering up and Jameel keeps throwing. Jameel hurts Byrd with a right hand to the body. Jameel looks like he is getting tired and starts to keep a pace. Byrd trying to come back now with some shots and McCline is starting to throw bombs against the ropes on Byrd. Byrd with huge bodyshots, McCline comes back with two huge right hands. Both men throwing shots at eachother at the end. Crowd on its feet at the end. McCline with another round.

Round 4 - McCline threw over 60 punches in the last round. Both guys jabbing, McCline with a big bodyshot. McCline looks to be a bit tired and is now starting to pace himself, he has thrown many big shots so far. Byrd seems to be flying back even from blocked shots. Byrd takes a right hand well. Byrd trying to hold. McCline with a three punch combo. Backs Byrd against the ropes, Byrd punching well off the ropes and gets out of trouble. McCline throwing some more big shots as Byrd is against the ropes. Jameel wins another close round.

Round 5 - HBO gave Byrd the last round. Byrd with a few "pitty pat" punches. Byrd's face looking puffy. Big right hand by McCline. Byrd with a left that drives back McCline. Byrd hurt by another right hand and flies into the ropes, Jameel a bit too tired to follow up and Byrd gets away. Jameel missing a few homerun swings, Byrd getting in some bodyshots. Jameel looks tired and Byrd comes on with some fast punches. Tough round to score, I'll give it to Byrd by a close margin.

Round 6 - HBO gives the last round to McCline. Both guys jabbing, McCline with the much harder jab landing. Big right by Jameel, Byrd in the ropes. I think Byrd is letting McCline back him into the ropes on purpose in order to make McCline swing plenty and tire himself. McCline seems to know the gameplan of Byrd and is shortening up his punches and Byrd countering well off the ropes. The fight is back in the middle of the ring. Both men landing well, nothing too big landing. Another close round that I will give to McCline. Byrd now needs a knock out or a knockdown on my card to win.

Round 7 - Byrd lets McCline gets him against the ropes and McCline backs off and lets Chris get back into the middle of the ring. Both men fighting at a close distance and landing short punches. Byrd with a good bodyshot, Jameel looks a bit winded. Byrd landing well now at close range to the head and body. Jameel is just walking though Byrd's punches. Byrd landing many more shots as McCline slows down. Good round for Byrd.

Round 8 - Byrd starts with a 5 punch combo and landing shots to the head and body as McCline seems tired. Byrd blocking McCline's punches. Not sure why Byrd continues to trade punches with McCline, but it is making the fight much more exciting. Jameel still looks tired and is countering well when Jameel throws punches. Byrd with a three round combo. Good shot on the jaw of McCline's jaw by Byrd. Byrd may have stunned Jameel with another right and starts throwing shots, Jameel goes on the attack and the round ends. Another round for Byrd.

Round 9 - Byrd is feinting with the jab. Good left by McCline. Byrd is now controlling the fight. Good bodyshots by McCline. Byrd with some good jabs. Both guys are fighting close with Byrd landing more and making McCline miss the big shots now. Good bodyshots by McCline as Byrd is against the ropes. Good bodyshot by Byrd and Jameel feels it. McCline closes the round by landing a right. Another round for Byrd, Byrd is really making a great comeback in this fight.

Round 10 - Brief time out as the corner of McCline fixes his trunks, HBO has the fight tied at 85-85 coming into the fight. Both men jabbing strong. Jameel really pounding Byrd against the ropes as the crowd goes wild, shots upstairs and down landing. Jameel now tired and Byrd bringing him to the middle of the ring to land some shots. Jameel now landing some bigshots against the ropes. McCline warned for punching Byrd on the back of the head. Byrd countering well against the ropes, but Jameel is throwing more bombs. Big round for McCline, HBO gives him the round as well. Fight is close coming into the last two rounds.

Round 11 - Byrd landing about 6 unanswered punches in the middle of the ring. McCline trying to land some good hard shots to the body. Byrd landing many of his pitty pat punches. Byrd now jabbiong well and landing about 5 punches to a single McCline punch. Byrd rocks McCline with a huge right. McCline just leans on top of Byrd to get out of trouble. Byrd throwing many shots at the end. Crowd on its feet again as Byrd wins a big round. HBO has it even, I have Jameel up, the official cards should be close. McCline's corner tells him he needs a KO.

Round 12 - Starts off slow, both men now throwing punches and Byrd lands two big rights, McCline walks through them. Jameel appears tired and Byrd landing his short punches at close range. Jameel now landing against the ropes but his punches seem to have lost their pop. Byrd lands another hard two punch combo. Jameel lands a good bodyshot but is tired. Last ten seconds, both men throw everything they got. Crowd boos Byrd when he gets on the top rope. Byrd took the last round. I have Jameel winning a close fight but some rounds were close that I gave to Jameel. HBO has Byrd winning by a point.

Both men and their families are embracing with eachother. Actually HBO has McCline up by two points, they gave Byrd a 10-8 round for round 11, they said Jameel did not land or throw enough and should lose two points.

114-112 for McCline, 115-112 for Byrd, 114-113 for the winner and still the IBF heavyweight champion of the world, Chris Byrd. Great fight and great comeback win for Byrd in a close fight.

McCline just ran out of gas, plain and simple. Gotta hand it to Byrd though, he fought a great last half of the fight. lol

Christistheanswer must be crying in joy right now. Chris Byrds last three fights have been very controversial to say the least. He won them no way near impressive. Whats next for Chris? A rematch with Golota or McCline or maybe a big payday against Vitali Klitschko? He himself said in a postfight interview that he wants either the winner of Ruiz/Golota or Vitali Klitschko. Gotta feel sorry for McCline who had Byrd down in the 2nd.

Yeah, McCline's a good fighter and seems like a nice guy, I think he had it won until he ran out of gas, in spite of fighting small for pretty much the whole fight. I guess there'll be other days though, he showed he can still fight.

Byrd deserved the win. He deserves credit for beating a hungry opponent and staying on top at his age. Fighters with his style are usually done by their early-mid 30s, but Byrd is compensating with heart and stamina . . .

Well, now it looks like he'll face either Ruiz or Klitschko (if he wins his upcoming fight).
