Cotto-Clottey: Santiago Says Miguel Will Be Ready

Last week, WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto picked Joe Santiago to be his new head trainer. Santiago replaces Miguel's uncle, Evangelista Cotto. The working relationship between Cotto and his uncle was destroyed two weeks ago when the two of them were involved in a physical confrontation after an argument over Miguel's training plan for the June 13 showdown with Joshua Clottey at New York's Madison Square Garden. trainer

I know very well that the job of the trainer is to prepare very good the boxer for each fight, but do not forget that in June 13 only the boxers will be fighting. Look what happened with Emannuel Stewart and Kermit Cintron, he lost by KOT. Did Emannuel save that defeat? No, Cintron lost and Emannuel with his experience did not help him at all. Look around a lot of boxer with young trainers doing very well. Cotto did not learn how to fight yesterday, if he is in good condition he will win by KO, otherwise he will lose the fight. Trainers do not save any boxer; they just help them to be in the best shape possible and to correct any mistake during the fight, but are up to the boxers to fight good or bad.

I like Clottey even though he bull****ted against Margarito.

Chico should have fought someone who just came from 140 instead of him.

            **** was he thinking?

Karma for rolling on Goosen maybe.

Not the best thing to happen before the "unification" bout...

                Get Off Miguel's Back.

Ok here i go again..... Miguel Cotto is in one of those situations where no one wants to win the fight more than him.. I believe that was his mind frame before his battle with his uncle, thus causing the training differences. Miguel wants the world to know that he is the best welter-weight... everyone expects Cotto to be distracted or bothered by the altercation from 2 weeks ago, but the reality is that it was nothing new to Cotto except for the fact that he had enough of his uncle's & his arguments so he fired him, because Evangelista was doing more bad than good by making his fighter feel uncomfortable in the most relevant fight since losing last July. Miguel Cotto is not a "disobedient fighter" who is a rebel and doesn't like to take instructions. I believe he had an idea that would help him, his uncle being older and his trainer probably never let Miguel have a voice or a say in what he may be comfortable with. Floyd JR. and Roy JR. both fired their fathers because they felt like they were too hard on them or never respected them as men and always looked at them as never smart or wise enough to ever second what their dad's had to say. The fact that from all the reports that I've read... It states that the Uncle attacked the nephew, and the nephew defending him self, all after their verbal dispute which caused Miguel to decide that it would be better to part ways and end the rocky relationship that had it's end fast approaching for several years now. This will only give Miguel more motivation to have the fight of his career come June 13th.
Unfortunately for Joshua Clottey it is he who Miguel stares down across the ring that night.
