its what happens when someone stands up to a bully.lacy relied on intimidation and raw power.when someone stood up 2 him,in front of thousands of not-so friendly-fans,he was ****ed before the bell went u could see it in his eyes

I think it's insulting to put it that way. Boxing is a very, very hard sport and i give all the credit in the world to Lacy, for stepping into the ring against the best in the world. So saying he's a **** victim is not a good statement.

But, i agree with the fact that the horrible Calzaghe fight broke something in him. He probably will never be as good as he was before. Boxing is one of the sports when the mental and the motivation are the most important.

Though, Jeff Lacy was never a GREAT fighter to begin with. He didn't develop enough skills to be a very good fighter, he relied more on his power and thoughness. That works good at some point but once you fight the creme de la creme, you need more than that. Calzaghe, Taylor, Tarver or Hopkins are very though and complete individuals. You can't beat them by just hitting them hard.

A little bit of credit can go to Joe for destroying his confidence but I think it has more to do with Lacy being a hypejob. The guy just wasn't as good as most people thought.

If we remember at the time ....even the British press didn't give Calzaghe a chance at beating Lacy ! And the commentators at the time was saying that the Lacy corner should pull him out cause after such a beating hes never gonna be the same !
you know now looking back .....they was right

its a shame when it happens to any fighter. i think his management like someone mentioned didnt develop him enough and he was rushed say like Vargas. plus that injury in the Tsypko fight made things worse. gotta give him credit in both fights for not giving up though. things could of been different with a more seasoned trainer. at least before the Cal fight he had eye candy KO's like most fans love.

Firstly he was probably never as good as he was hyped up to be and secondly, I think the shoulder injuries he had after the Calzaghe fight probably played as much of a part.

When you take the power away from a brawler like Lacy there just isn't much else left. No doubt Calzaghe robbed him of some confidence, but the fact that physically he can't deliever his trademark punch with the same power anymore has at least as much to do with it.
