Right Now Gamboa is Reflex Based Fighter w/ Little Skill

after watching tonight's fight and having seen 3-4 of his last fights, it feels to me that Gamboa is just a fast twitch fighter that relies way too much on his reflex.
He doesn't use any good fundamentals neither on defense nor offense. In both he uses his gifts with fast twitch reflexes in how he keeps his hands low but manages to duck under punches because his reaction time is so fast on defense.
On offense most of his landed shots were fast twitch counter responses. He doesn't set anything up with jabs and his jab is terrible, a lazy pawing jab that is ineffective.
He doesn't invest in any body work at all and just wings fast lead left hooks and lead right hands down the pipe hoping to catch his opponent flush in the face.
He seems confused on the inside and likes to keep a distance. Tonight Rojas wanted to keep a distance too so Gamboa had the luxury of patience to stalk out a guy who literally was not throwing ANYTHING. But I feel if someone takes the fight TO Gamboa he may have a lot more trouble.
He needs to start relying less on reflexes and more on well school fundamentals, but I wonder if it's too late for him.

His power feels like it has been SLIGHTLY exposed tonight seeing as how Rojas walked through many flush devastating shots and never flinched or was severely wobbled.

I feel he has no customized game plan for each specific fighter, he just sort of goes out there and does the same thing over and over to each guy. He doesn't set up his punches much, doesn't feint or throw good combinations, just tries to counter using his reflexes and throwing huge punches one at a time for the head.

He has a long way to go.

rojas has only been stopped once and he did show some good defense, he's very elusive.

I agree gamboa needs to improve his fundamentals. 15 fights in his pro career, he's still a beast though.

I seriously loathe his demeanor in the ring.

I can't wait to see him get brutally ko'd.

Yea he's a beast and those same fast twitch reflexes I'm decrying here will take him far on their own accord it's just that they won't take him all the way to the top because the elite at the very top will take advantage of all the little idiosyncrasies and mistakes he makes and expose him

I Totally agree with this. A well school boxer beats(John for example) or a Power Puncher with selective pressure(Juanma)

I must admit his arrogant ring presence is getting more and more annoying. Those types always seem to get their due (Khan, Darchinyan)

When you have 300+ AMA fights, and you dont have fundamentals, when you are at your 15 pro fights, means your not that speciall!!!!!!!!!!

to his credit, Rojas realistically has lost only once in the past decade. Well his last KO loss was in 2001 but after that he won during all the 2000's until his UD loss (but he was knocked down twice, something even Gamboa failed to legitimately do) to Chris John 2 years ago.

to say gamboa has no skill is ******ed, this guy had several hundred AM fights and won a gold medal, he has skills, just because he doesnt fight straight out of a boxing textbook doesnt mean hes some ****** brawler who just relies on his physical gifts. he was taught to fight with his hands down because of his incredible reflexes and speed. his style is unique and built around his attributes. he would have learnt fundamentals first but then experimented and developed as he progressed
