By Cliff Rold - Though the regular Featherweight titlist of the WBA has been active and dutifully made his mandatory defenses, a good sanctioning fee opportunity is rarely wasted in boxing and so it was on Friday night at Buffalo Bill's Star Arena in Primm, Nevada. In the main event, the highly regarded 27-year old Cuban contender Yuriorkis Gamboa (15-0, 13 KO) made good on his first title opportunity, dominating 37-year old Jose Rojas (25-7-1, 17 KO) of Venezuela throughout the night before forcing a stoppage in round number ten to take the ‘interim’ WBA honors at 126 lbs. He'll beat Rocky Juarez in the rematch. Hell, he technically beat Rocky in the first fight but Rocky finished up the fight great. I forgot the score I had for this fight, I believe I had it either 8-4 or 7-5 for John. But John definitely deserved the victory in my opinion. It was home-cooking to call it a draw but I'm sure john was happy they didn't rob him and give him a loss on his record.Comment

I'm betting Gamboa and John will never fight. Somehow the WBA will keep Rojas in the top 5 (what was he doing at #2 anyway?) and he'll have a better chance at getting a third fight with John than Gamboa will of getting his first. The whole point of this "interim" title bull**** is to keep the champion from having to fight the next best fighter in the division and making sure the WBA gets two sets of sanctioning feesComment

gamboa still looks amaturish(and he admitted to this),,he doesn't go to the body at all, don't know if anybody noticed that,,,and he leaves himself too open,is too wild, someone with good skills, counter punching skills will give him trouble,he's lucky none of the champs here are that good, just john, guess thats why he chose this division over jr lightweight when he was given the chance to choose where he would fight...more solid champions in jr lightweight than featherweight.Comment
