Fighters who have speed will always give hopkins some trouble. He was in a close fight with Calzaghe that could have gone either way, both men did some illegal stuff. Bhop clinching a ridiculous amount and head butting, Calzaghe use the inside of his gloves to smack bhop sometimes...
either way I scored both fights for Hopkins anyway and in the first one I believe it was Hopkins rocked Taylor badly late and almost had him outta there and Taylor was ready to be KTFO by the end of the fight.
Styles make fights, people forget this. Taylor will always give Hopkins some problems. Because Taylor fights nothing like Pavlik. Just because Pavlik beat Taylor, doesn't mean their is a triangle theory that BHOP should never have no problems with Taylor.
I didn't think Taylor won either of those fights, but I think Hopkins "lost" those fights himself more so than Taylor beat him, or at least for the second fight because he knew he would have to do more to impress the judges and he simply didn't.
It's just the way hopkins fights. He's a defensive fighter and I'm sure he felt he was winning the fights just like he felt he was winning against calzaghe and I'm sure he felt he was forcing them to fight his way of fighting, which is true.
I think he means not being assertive by negative. Anyway it wasnt necessarily the speed that bothered Hopkins it was the style. Speed along with power and counter punching gives most people problems. Besides Hopkins was counting on a strategy in the first fight but it didnt work the way he wanted it to.
He was hoping Taylor would eventually give in and start punching and not waiting, basically trying to get him out of character, thats what all smart fighters try to do, if they can get you to do something youre not used to doing then more times than not they got you. So its about getting you out of your comfort zone, also he was hoping the bright lights, the magnitude/signifigance of the fight, nerves would play a part against Taylor.
