    ****** commentators........

Firstly i was watching the De la Hoya- Ruelas fight, and the commentator was remarking about how there were questions over Oscar's chin kinda funny cos oscar is universally regarded as having one of the best chins of his era

Then i was watching toney- de witt and the commentator was remarking before the fight how toney was " a tough puncher with a devastating right hand who is very erratic in the ring and has a questionable defence" and toney is regarded as being among the best defensive wizards of his era, and of all time

The spanish commentators for the Chavez Jr. fights are just rediculous. They NEVER see the guy lose a round.

it wasnt a ****** comment at all. De La Hoya had been put down by mediocre fighters up to that point in his career, more noticably against Campanella or whoever that guy was.
his chin at 130lbs and to a degree 135lbs was a little weak, once he moved up to 140+lbs it got MUCH better.

fighters change a lot over their careers, people just forget how they used to be.

LOL. ****** commentators? Come on, keep it in perspective of the times. Guys like you probably look at Oscar's resume and old fights (having not lived through it) and probably consider him a God. Not saying you directly but it's best to remember when they were saying it.

yeah but the guys oscar was fighting weren't really all that mediocre (especially compared to the comp most people fight at that stage of their careers), they were solid fighters right from day one

maybe i need to see some more early oscar fights, i havent seen many from below 140

maybe you're right about the chin thing, it was probably caused by weight drain mainly, he was a big 130/135 lber

he was put down by Narcisso Velezuela and Giorga Campanella, who were both unknowns, who never went on to accomplish anything. hell, Velezuela had only won 1 of his last 6 fights. and these knockdowns occured only about a year before the Ruelas fight.

think about how people would react today, if DLH's career was just starting out. We would probably be treating Oscar like we did Gamboa, actually.

I have no explanation for the Toney comment though, lol.
