Chad Dawson is rated number 2 by The Ring and Bernard Hopkins is ranked number 1 by The Ring, so Chad Dawson would have to beat Bernard Hopkins to get The Ring Light Heavyweight Title!

At this point he would need to fight Hopkins since Hopkins is rated #1 at LH. Dawson is #2. The Ring says if the #1 fights the #2 the winner will be crowned champ.

Or if Hopkins retires then Dawson would need to beat the next highest ranked fighter, which is Glen Johnson, who is currently ranked #3.

Agreed. Could go either way, but Dawson has a good chance IMHO. But B-Hop has shown no signs of wanting to fight him.

I know Ring used to say if you unified 3 Alphabets you got it also, but I dont know if they still have that policy

Also I believe Ring has a committee of experts who decide if a fight is championship worthy.
