not really a strong answer I know but i only go back as far as tyson-holyfield I. EVERYONE watched that fight, it was like a superbowl party at my house when I was a kid for that. boxing was always on at my house on saturday nights in the other room, but i never remember actually sitting down to watch a fight until then. between the action of the first one and the craziness of the 2nd one, I was hooked
