We should appreciate that win more. Wright was very game, check the output

In his last 7 fights going back to Mosley, Wink has averaged about a 658 punch total a fight. His low of 200+ is against a doing nothing Trinidad and a 1000+ performance against Quartey. Against Soliman the only guy to throw a G in his face other than PW in that span, Wright still maintained his 650s output fight average.

The lowest out of these fights since Trinidad (where he didn't have to work hard against Tito) was against PW with a 511 total. We see he stays close to his average even in the face of evenish match ups with Taylor and Hopkins, no big drop.

Now the first thing everyone is running to in his recent loss is age and the layoff, but there is a big glaring in-ring difference in the match against Williams compared to others in that line up. We see against Soliman, Wright sustained his output average... but the problem was Sam had nothing on those punches and couldn't find the mark.

Against "The Punisher" he had a 1,000 shots come his way ala Sam, but the hard stuff had badder intentions on it than Taylor or Hopkins' power shots! The proof is in the pudding when we see Ronald's face by the end of the bout and the pure wreckage resulting from punches alone despite Winky's STILL stellar defense.

Another thing is, I had both of Wrights fights against Taylor and Bernard as a win and a razor thin loss, with Hopkins of all people throwing the most punches he had in more than 5 fights (a fight many of you label as one of his more boring contests for some reason, when offensively he was more abysmal even some time before Taylor).

Now the age and layoff thing with Wink.. I don't doubt that it was a factor, but please consider, even still, Wright was not too far from his usual output despite the crazy offense he had to contest with. It's incredible he could stand at fight's end with how tired he got and still try to compete, and imo that's the only place where Winky's age shows. His stamina. Everything else is still there and he still wouldn't have tired so bad if it weren't for Paul.

My assessment of this is Wink would have surprised all of us if his 160 opponent was anyone other than Williams that night and he would of looked like he hadn't missed a beat offense wise. The biggest difference in all of this was the man in front of him, and if not for his still INCREDIBLE defense Paul stops him and the near shut out gets dwarfed in praise.

The Punisher is a nightmare, I'm sorry, since knuckling down after sleeping on Quintana he's been fighting a bit smarter and punching much harder. I'm pretty sure Pavlik and Abraham would rather not fight him and Paul might find himself at 168 if a Clottey fight doesn't come off after Cotto.
