^ Kinda silly making a statement like that. The physical abuse that a football player goes through is quite on par with boxers, if not more.

If some of ya'll would think outside the proverbial box you would understand where the writer is coming from.

American football players take more physical abuse than boxers? Because professional boxers wear all that body armour and helmets when they perform? Oh, nevermind... that's football.

^ Don't be so ignorant. If it weren't for the padding you'd read about a death or permanent injury a week, on blindsiding hits alone in today's NFL especially.

And if you knew anything about the mistreatment of the league's retired players, you'd see the mileage an NFL player runs on their bodies is indeed comparable to boxing. Signs of early dementia, going broke, and players in the physical condition of 70 year olds by the time they hit their 40s is quite common.

That stuff only provides minimal protection for their bodies.

I'm sure a savvier Googler can look up NFL injury stats and such

The average football player's career is under 4 years due to injuries. You call it just running and falling, however there impacts from grown men that weigh 220-350 pounds that are running 10-12 mph to crush you. Common injuries include

          ACL/MCL tears in the knees
          Concussions
          Rotator cuff tears
          Blood clots
          Neck injuries
          Foot/Elbow injuries
          Broken ribs

The 'armor' is merely padding. Not much it does when someone's helmet is being thrown at full speed into someone's rib cage, head or unprotected knees to bring them down. A football player has about 3-5 days to recover from injury before he has to play again, wheras a boxer has several months at the professional level.

Does a boxer play in harsh weather conditions where the risk of injury is even greater? Its silly to even begin to compare a boxer and a football player. The risk of permanent injury is greater in short term and long term in most cases.

Anyways, this is a boxing forum and we are straying from the topic, however the writer was merely making a loose analogy from one great athelete of one sporting arena to another whose careers are somewhat similar. The main differences of course was that Jim Kelly never won the big one, where Oscar has

            I'm a dane. I love NFL. Yes I do!

The comparison to Jim Kelly, whom Ive never seen apart from highlightfilm, but have read about, is excellent. Just short of the big one.

            Thanks for the memories Oscar.
