He obviously hasn't earned it in the heavyweight arena.. By that I mean.. he has not beaten contenders etc etc.. BUT in today's world.. It's all about getting noticed.. And haye earned his shot through self promotion..That has got to be worth something.. if only that should he lose.. a possible great career in advertising awaits him..

I'm spilt because he really hasn't earned his shot, but there really is no other top contender who deserves the shot and he was the former crusierweight champ. He hasn't really earned the shot, but it's not a terrible match up, so he can cut in line.

Calzaghe was the Undisputed Super-Middleweight Champ, so he stepped up a weight to fight the best there (Hopkins).

Hatton was the Undisputed Light-Welterweight Champ, so he stepped up a weight to fight the best there (Mayweather).

There's endless stories like this, and noone complains about Calzaghe and Hatton gaining their shots.
Calzaghe needed Hopkins though to prove some of his critics that "you need to come to da states and fight the best" mumbo jumbo and Hopkins was. Calzaghe also was considered one of the best fighters in the world. Haye is not.

Hatton-Mayweather was a match up people wanted to see for a long time. It's not like where Hatton made the jump just to go and fight the well known champ. Mayweather was at 140, but they didn't fight there, and the fight was demanded by a lot more people.

So those cases are a little different, but I get your main point.

Hell no. He fights once at heavy, gets dropped by a C level fighter, looks like ****, and calls out the champ. He is here because he talks a good game and because there is almost nobody else for Wlad to fight.

You see fighters from lower divisions who are champions, vacate then move up a division and get a title shot straight away. Why is this any different?

Of course he earned it. He was the real Cruiserweight champion. The real champ of any weight doesn't need to campaign at the weight he is moving up to in order to get a shot at the title. When have they ever?
