Tyson liked to fight in spurts but he also liked to throw with extreme force with every punch and that can take something out of you quicker so you need to conserve. Most boxers mix up there punches so they don't wear out to quick or warm up to a fight so they can come on strong later. He also didn't start to relax in fights until later on. The Spinks fight was his most relaxed fight. If you are tense, you burn out quicker. As he progressed, he seemed to relax more which is why we saw the difference in the Tillis fight and his next fight against Green; two fights that went the distance.
The Jab is also a nice weapon to help keep a solid pace.
Never heard the lung condition thing before but since he was a kid, it may have to do with him being a fatty...I mean "Husky." Plus, in youth, lots of things can be the cause and you can out-grow them, especially during puberty. Many stories of athletes that were ill as kids that overcome it later; maybe not completely though.
If it was that bad, no way he is able to go through the training and fights he went through, but it could have been something enough to have affected him from being a Henry Armstrong type fighter...but at 215+ on a 5'11 frame, that would be hard anyway.
