Like somebody else mentioned above most posters here have a favorite fighter in the Welterweight Division who wants no piece of Williams.

Therefore they want Williams to move up so they don't have to constantly defend their favorite fighters for dodging him.

The better question is why would anyone want Williams to fight in any division besides Welterweight... there are dream fights with big name opponents just waiting to happen... the 154 is pathetic and AA and Pavlik are the only names worth Williams time at 160.
