I FINALLY was able to watch some fights recently, some older some live. I was also able to watch/hear about some of the upcoming ,matches aswell as some recent results. The one thing that I came away with, that warmed me inside, was that alot of these fighters are finally getting together and just doing it. Meaning that many of the top guys are getting together and throwing for the fans rather then bitching from coast to coast about what one would do to the other. Its really about time that this happened. With mma and all of our splintered titles its great to see that these guys are doing it, its just plain great for the game.
I was able to catch the williams fight and must say that I was impressed with him. While Winky is older and on the downside of his mountain Williams was able to move around him and flurry as he liked. While watching him I was reminded alot of Michael Nunn, with his flurries and constant side stepping and pivoting. Williams was smooth and dominate in his performance and there was really no question as to how the fight would end. In defense of Winky he is older and abit worn, even with his awsome D. I will always speak highly of Winky, when at his best the man was sweet. And even in his later years he will be a handfull for more middlewieghts than not, far more. But back on Williams, while he dominated over Winky I believe that he will have trouble with a guy that can move forward with power. Winkys shell defense was almost custom made for Williams it seemed. Other fighters will move in with much more aggresion than Wright did. It will be interesting to see how well Williams would handle that when they posses the power to set him down for 8. I honestly believe that Williams will be a champion for a good while, the man can fight.
Areolla, the undercard match was interesting while watching him put away a less than eager and less than inshape McCline. I was hearing things about him seriously doing something in the heavyweight division, of him being the first latin champ or whatever but Iseriously doubt that he will be able to. Bring him the older names later in their careers and he will have the skill to do them in but bring him a fresher more skilled fighter and he will have trouble. Trouble not because of his skill but more so his size. That man, leaned out and FIT would be a very formidable light heavy or cruiser. I just dont think that he has the size to handle the larger and younger heavies. He does posses the skills but just not the size.
Also I have been watching the Pac-Hatton 24/7 shows. Again I am happy that the top guys are squaring up. This should be one hell of a fight. The more I watch these tapes the more I like Hatton as a person. I have read the hatered towards him from others on the site and find it off target. Hattons a fighter, a world ranked top of the heap fighter. I dont find it to be arogance or ****y what he says, just confident.
I have also for the first time seen Pac interviews and the like in these shows. Hes a likable fellow with some fast ass hands. I do believe that Pacs hands will be to fast for Hatton to handle. Hatton will bull his way in but Pacs akward style and fast hands I believe will be too much for hatton. MAybe a stoppage here.
Well, thats what I say. Great to be back on the scene. Boxing scene, it does a boxing fan good.....................Rockin'
