Williams Is A Beast But Lets Be Real About It...

1st off I have always been a big Winky fan and you are a truly awesome fighter if you can dominate him. However, Manny Steward said it best before the fight and its basicaly the same thing that Atlas said. Manny said that he didnt think Shane should fight Winky because Winky would be the worst matchup in boxing for him and he felt the same way tonight. He said that Winky shouldnt be fighting Williams because its the worst matchup in boxing for him because of there style. Winky likes to be all D and wait for you to stop punching but Williams never stops. Thats the same thing Atlas said. Then the few times he does stop, he's so long that he's out of reach for Winky to counter.

Basicaly Im saying that it was a great performance and he should be given full credit but you cant say that he's unbeatable just because no one else can do that to Winky. Styles make fights and this was always a horrible style for Winky. Guys like Cotto & Shane willl be throwing alot more punches and with major power. Just look at how he lost to Quintana but Cotto killed him and how he won a close fight with Margarito but Mosley destroyed him. Some guys are just horrible matchups for other guys. Again, its not a negative thing. Williams is a straight freak who is the real deal and can possibly beat anyone but I wouldnt be shocked at all if Floyd, Cotto, or Mosley beat him. I wouldnt even be shocked if my boy Clottey beat him even though he fights a similar style to Winky. I wouldnt be shocked if Kirkland beat him. All these guys can. On the flip side Williams could slaughter all of them. Im just saying that you shouldnt overreact because he's beatable. You just have to find the right opponent.

People talk about his size but thats not a big deal to me. They then talk about his punch rate but thats also not a big deal to me. Its his Southpaw stance combined with the other 2 that makes him a monster to deal with, e****aly for an orthodox fighter. Most of them have problems with Southpaws so he will be a hard guy to beat but both Mosley & Cotto have showed that they can deal certain Southpaws and then there are certain ones that they will have trouble with

Winky fought well enuf that I don't label him shot. But I don't think he was at his absolute best either, and I feel he woulda beat Pwill in his full prime. That don't mean Pwill shouldn't get cred for the performance he put up tonite tho.

good post, styles make fights and a good counter puncher would give paul problems like when quintana schooled him. paul gives up his height advantage when he throws so many punches. he lunges in when he throws and is open often after he finishes his combo's

Williams has taken it on the chin from Glen Johnson. I think he can deal with 147-160

I don't see Williams losing again unless he dares himself at 168. He's mixed in good pop with his workrate now instead of just a pure scrappy, scoring offense (something he didn't tweak until the Quintana loss). It's hard for me not to rate this win against Wink highly, and the only reason I think this wasn't a KO win was because of Wink's D, anyone with a lesser guard would've touched canvas tonight. Even with the layoff, I wasn't respecting Williams enough to think he'd win, but he then goes and beats Ronald like he was a nobody. I had Wright beating Taylor and only losing to Hopkins by a single point. As sloppy as he looks in there, this Williams kid is special. I think it will take a fast thudder to beat him without controversy. I'll be surprised if he sleeps on another B fighter anytime soon.

i agree...his chin is quite underrated he has a great chin i believe and his defense wasnt like it used to be but it still kept him away from trouble...winky couldve won this fight if he used his hook more....he basically lost because he just didnt throw enough but in some ocassions he threw the more cleaner punches but definetley a prime winky wouldve exposed pwill and beat him

boxers like Martinez, a focused Quintana and maybe Floyd will give him problems, anybody who stands his ground and tries to take him out will lose, good chin by the way.

              Great opening post.

The style matchup was perfect for Williams.

He looked good, but other fighters are going to use different tactics against him that he wasn't tested against last night.

I'm not saying he won't pass those tests in the future, I'm just saying, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Anyway, congratulations to Williams for doing 110% better than Hopkins, Taylor, Trinidad, Mosley and Vargas against Winky Wright... not a bad list to do better than, even if it was a style issue.

I agree that style troubles Wink. Sam Solimon won 4 rounds againt Wright with the same weird high output style.

Lol, no way do Soliman and Williams fight even remotely the same...

I have never seen anyone fight like Soliman... he stumbles around and wings punches from every which way. He's a damn weird fighter.

I meant in the sense that his idea of beating Winky was just throwing as much leather as possible at, around, under, or over Winky's guard.

Then again that's Solimon's idea of beating everybody...
