  • Valero's Latin Fury 9 Opponent

Edwin Valero (25-0, 25 KOs), who claimed a vacant lightweight title with a spectacular second-round knockout of Antonio Pitalua last Saturday, will make his first defense July 25 on Top Rank's "Latin Fury 9" PPV card in Mexico, either Cancun or Toluca, Top Rank's Bob Arum told ESPN.com. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will headline. Valero's opponent hasn't been determined, but Arum said two names under discussion are Edner Cherry and Breidis Prescott, "but it is difficult to find someone brave enough to face 'Superman.' After all, nobody wants to become No. 26 on the hit parade. I want my 'Superman' to fight as often as possible because if he's as good as I think he is, he can be an unbelievable opponent for Manny Pacquiao next year."

This "Superman" gimmick will fail when someone notices Valero's huge defensive holes, until then, he will continue calling out JMM and MP. A lot of power with no technical skill = A very dangerous gatekeeper.

Both those opponents will be tough.

Valero just leaves that chin up in the air pretty much begging someone to punch it.

If he would stop fighting with his chin in the air and take his time a little more this kid would be special.

They should go for Cherry, because Prescott have huge Power, and Valero had a qierd defense. He can get KTFO if Prescott catches him!!!!!!!!!

prescott has huge power? not on his last fight on fnf he did not. his power is severly overrated.

Yup, that's the Khan factor's influence. Like most Colombian boxers, he has a brawling style, not a good matchup against a stronger brawler.
