For an instance and so that you guys don't go thinking I'm saying this because JC is a white guy: the other only retired undefeated guy on this era - Floyd Mayweather Jr. got HELL for claiming he was the best of this ERA, not one of the best ever, which is what ATG really means. Yet Floyd Mayweather Jr. was an undefeated 5 category champion who was p4p #2 3 years into his pro career. He was p4p #1 from 2005 to 2007 when he retired. This guy gets all hell on him for claiming he was the best to lace em up THIS ERA. Joe Calzaghe barely got past 43 year old Bernard Hopkins, who yes still had allot left in him but, come on! "Normal" fighters are fighting veterans like Hopkins and Jones for a name in their resume, not for claiming ATG status! You are supposed to fight veterans when you're 26, like Chad Dawson is doing right now. The reasoning here is gaining world class experience without risking your precious 0 while at it (because the old great won't likely be fighting at your rhythm for 12, right? Most times yes). But wait, these people claiming JC is an ATG refuse the same honors to Mosley, Hoya, Mayweather, Castillo, (not Hopkins though for obvious reasons) and many others. I mean, if you are serious about JC being a ATG then YOU ARE LOWERING THE BAR EFFECTIVELY, which means EVERY good fighter is going in there too!
      I agree with this 100%.
Hey i got an example for you. Bert Sugar in his book lists the 100 greastest fighters ever. Bert has Mike Tyson at #100. No offense to joe but if tyson is #100 then he is at the very list about 25-50 notches below. so yes if you are calling joe an atg then you are lowering the bar by alot.

If He is in fact considered and ATG.(which is a fine line) It was because he beat B-hop. The Jones fight was way, way late and didn't really add to any legacy. It's not like Tarver and Johnson will be ATG's, now is it? They beat Jones more comprehensively than Joe did and when he was closer to his prime. (pre-heavyweight, nobody beats Jones)

I say if he is , it's because of 21 SMW title defenses combined w/ the Hopkins win. It's hard to argue against that many successful defenses even if 90% of them were made to order bums.

It's just too bad Joe got motivated so late. the boxing world missed out on allot of great fights. Some fighters worry about their legacy way too late. Joe is no exception.

But my question is when did he become an ATG fighter.

Was it before the Hopkins fight. Did you consider him an ATG after his wins over past it Eubank Lacy and Kessler.

Or was it after his controversial SD over Hopkins.

                    another peanut.

If this place is not careful it could turn into ESB.
