Boxing should start to branch out and get away from Vegas

No one is going to vegas because the economy is ****. A ton of fights recently have been away from Vegas, and typically they sell very very well (you bring the fights to the people, they will go!). So boxing promoters have caught on to this, they no vegas is a ghost town right now and like I said most fights recently have been non-vegas venues.
It's really ****** Williams/Winky is at Vegas because neither are big sellers and the above reasons I mentioned. The only fights that can do well at Vegas right now are the super mega fights, like Pacquiao, or Mayweather. Everyone else needs to fight in small towns, fighters backyards, etc.Comment

I was just reading that 90% of seats for the Williams V Wright fight are unsold. I have been to Vegas more than a few times and its really not the most happening place in the world. Sure, a lot of people still vacation but its getting smaller and smaller by the year. The suburbs is small and only has about 600,000 people so non visitors won't bring out to many people either. The cards in LA and Texas in the past few months were great but a card like this in those areas would do better than what some of these Vegas crowds are doing. Boxing should think about having fights in bigger cities that have larger burbs. A boxing event in Chicago, Detroit, or even the Cleveland area would bring in more than 2000 people expected for the fight tomorrow. Its time to get with the times and drop some of these ****** casino contracts, 1000-2000 fans watching tomorrows fight is sad.
and this fight being in Vegas had nothing to do with the promoters moreso than Winky. He demanded it be in VegasComment

not for nothing but considering this is the first major fight in Vegas and we are already halfway through April I say the promoters got the picture. Add to that fights in San Jose, Houston, Austin, Youngstown New York Los Angeles and Anaheim and I would say promoters are going to now rely on gate rather than site fees

who said anything about being big?
GBP and GT wanted the fight in LA. Vegas was willing to put up a site fee to cover both Winky and PWill and Winky demanded the fight be in Vegas. GBO and GT took the site fee because had they not and been forced to four wall they would have lost their ass on it.
I talked to someone and they stated that as of last weekend 900 tickets were soldComment

europe is a small market though... geographically the US is too big. this fight should've been in atlanta or florida or in california.Comment
