Why isn't the Wlad-Haye match being promoted properly in the US?

This fight is thought of by many boxing fans and analysts as potentially the most explosive heavyweight title fight in many years.

It features a classic match-up of totally different personalities: one a brash, ****y, arrogant, trash talking, yet charismatic man who is full of himself and frequently comes out with snappy, controversial one-liners; the other a nice role model who is highly intelligent, and does a lot of charity work. Both men are considered good looking.

It also features a classic match-up of styles- both with one-punch knock-out power, both with weak chins, Wlad with the superior skills, strength and height, Haye with the superior speed, movement and fluency.

It's on free to air HBO, which means it could potentially get a huge audience if promoted properly.

So why is there no sign of it being promoted in the US? Why is there no 24/7? Why no build up on HBO? Why so little publicity about the fight and the personalities in the mainstream media?

Schaefer is Haye's US promoter, but K2 is in sole charge of the promotion; but couldn't K2 get GBP to do some US promotional work on this fight on K2's behalf?

Earlier today I was thinking it is a real shame that although Wlad is heavyweight champion he isn't that well known here in the states, and I have met no one other than hardcore boxing fans that knows who David Haye is because this is going to be a entertaining fight that will almost certainly end in a brutal ko. Shame not many here will see it.

Give it time. I bet HBO will do a countdown show. They really don't do any more for non-ppv events.

A big heavyweight fight like this in which both fighters are pretty unknown in the US needs more than just a countdown show, though, IMO. They should make an exception in this case. I think it deserves at least a 24/7.

That's why I think it needs to be promoted extremely well. It's one of the few big fights in recent years that are very likely to deliver, in terms of excitement. It's a great chance to get the casual fans interested in the sport again. It won't cost the fans any $ to watch it. If they don't watch it just due to lack of publicity that would be a huge missed opportunity for boxing, IMO.

Because in any country apart from Ukraine or Germany, Wlad Klitschko would not be favored by the referees and this could not be accepted by him.

I think we're talking at cross purposes. The fight will be in Germany, but will be screened in the US on ordinary HBO.
