Wladimir Klitschko’s manager Bernd Bonte has told Setanta Sports News that his man is very confident ahead of his heavyweight title scrap with David Haye in Germany.
It was confirmed on Tuesday that Gelsenkirchen’s Veltins Arena, home of Bundesliga club Schalke, will hosts the long-awaited clash of the duo in June, with the capacity set to be extended from 60,000 to up to a whopping 75,000 for the fight.
Haye's crack at the IBF, IBO and WBO titles is live on Setanta Sports on June 20 with Bonte expressing his pleasure with the choice of venue, which he hopes will sell out for the fight and provide one of the highest attendances in boxing history.
“We had different offers in Germany and also outside of Germany, but in the end we decided on Schalke because we love this arena,” Bonte told Setanta Sports News.
“It’s an outdoor arena, but at the same time it could also be an indoor arena because they have a roof - if it should rain, but we hope not and that we will have a wonderful summer night.
“We have very decent low ticket prices and we really hope that we will have a sell-out crowd. I am pretty sure that David and Wladimir will promote this fight well. David is a very flashy person, but also a very good fighter.
“We are also very sure that we will have many English fans coming over because it is in the west of Germany and is not very far from England.”
And with the arrangements for the eagerly-anticipated clash of Haye and the Ukrainian superstar now made, Bonte says his man is looking forward to it and predicts a trademark Klitschko knockout.
“He is very confident. Otherwise he would have retired already. He is pretty sure that he will win – and again by knockout.
“The motto of this fight is Knockout in Schalke and because both are knockout artists with a very good knockout rate, I am sure the fight will definitely not go the distance.”
Bonte also added that Klitschko will have the on-hand support of his brother Vitali as the duo continue their pattern of supporting each other from the corner in big fights.
“He will not only be cheering ringside. He is in his corner and will be watching the fight very close as [happens] the other way round, such as for example two weeks ago [when] Vitali won against Juan Carlos Gomez and Wladimir was in his corner.”
